GoodNeighbor Interest Groups
Shoppers and donors at the GoodNeighbor Centers are surveyed during an event such as the annual Back 2 School Fair, to determine their interests/passions. Based upon the surveys, free interest groups are formed. Some current classes are beginners Spanish, intermediate Spanish, computers, beginners English and cooking.Groups meet each week with between 50 to 100 participating.
Volunteers who enjoy teaching the particular focus of the group are asked to be instructors. Other volunteers act as Group Facilitators who assist the Instructors by setting up the rooms, making copies of handouts, maintaining attendance records and calling group members who missed a class or to share important group information. Being an instructor or a facilitator is a 6 - 12 month commitment with substitute positions also available.
